I LOVE MAKING MIX CDS.

Femme Fractal CD - cover Summer Monkey Hijinx - cover Snowmonkey Mix - CD and cover Monkey 9 to 5 - front

As you can see, I compulsively make CD packaging for the mixes I invent and give to friends and family. The monkey-themed CDs are a series that I designed for Kevin and Philip, my music-loving younger brothers. "Femme Fractal" was designed for my two college roommates, Sonja and Raina. (It's coming in the mail, ladies!)

I barely finished the last packaging project when a new idea for a mix CD popped into my head.

The title? "Death & Taxes / The Certain Things in Life." Cheery, isn't it?

The first song will be William Shatner's "You're Gonna Die" off of his most recent album. The last song? "Taxman," by none other than the Beatles. The big question here is: what goes in between? And that, my friends, is where you come in. So far, I've thought of other themes that could be included as "Certain Things in Life": Love Found, Love Lost, Betrayal, Rejection, Friendship, Family, Work, and Play.

Of course, many of these themes are very similar or very tied to the overall "Death & Taxes" genre, but you get the idea. What I'm looking for here are song and theme suggestions from the audience. If I include your song, you win! Winning song will receive a copy of the CD with fancy packaging like those that I've put together above... so... what's your poison?

Me and my heavy-metal bias think Metallica's "Creeping Death" would be an essential here.

"Spirit In the Sky" by Norman Greenbaum
"Feed the Trees" by Belly.

Shoot, my Dh came up with a whole list the other day based on a work conversation, but those are the only two I remembered (my contributions, naturally). I'll ask him tonight.
